tis a gift
another simple pleasure in life: given the fact that i work in a software company testing software meant for bookstores, let me explain something about my workplace. possibly (probably) since it's located in one of the more populous gay neighborhoods in Chicago, at least half of its imployees are gay. they're very open about it; everyone who missed the annual company party was straigt, so there were 3 (exactly) out of about 20 couples who were parters of the opposite sex.
which makes it funny that one of our groups of customers (major, major clientel) is Christian stores, other otherwise religious. Usually christian, however. I think we have one Jewish store customer and that's probably it for non-christian stores. Who, notably, probably have no idea they work with a largly gay company. funny side note: when the company first started out, the two (gay) VPs, Carrie and David, went to a christian trade show to sell our product, and someone asked them if they were married. they had to pretend not to be outraged.
so it happens sometimes that i have to do testing on a christian store's database. creepy as this may sound, it sometimes has its perks. like today, i've been making many sales on an item titled "Gigi the Pink Ballerina", although the space alloted for the title in the register isn't quite long enough. so it comes up as, in all caps no less, "GIGI THE PINK BALLER". If that doesn't scream gayness, i'm not sure what does.

once, i went into a Lifeway Christian store to buy a Christmas present for my grandmother. she had been talking about this damn ornament for ages, and finally I braved the cult-like feeling of the store and went in to buy it for her. It was a globe ornament with an etching of Jesus... when I left the store, I looked at my receipt, and it said
CHRISTBALLS
!!!!!outrageous!!!!!there must be some subliminal action going on in these sexually repressed people. love, kat
