convenient streetlight
i spent yesterday afternoon driving out to a strip mall by the airport with my parents and sister. the goal was to find hot-weather blouses that i can wear to work, and dressy pants for my sister, along with quiet plotting by my parents to convince her that she doesn't have the body type to wear dresses. by "quiet plotting," i mean the oh-so-subtle "these dress pants look nice," and "they'll be great for dressing up in the summer, like at david's wedding."
my sister is very traditional when it comes to... everything. she still wants to sleep over at my aunt and uncle's house on christmas eve so we can wake up with the christmas tree, even though she's 26 and lives about a mile away. i don't know if she ever forgave our mother for convincing her to wear dress pants and a really nice blazer to her wedding. so, naturally, she picked up on the "subtle" hints at wearing dressy linen pants to our brother's wedding this summer, and disagreed whole-heartedly.
our mom started lecturing her in the middle of the store about how skirts and dresses aren't dressy anymore, they've become too casual. and besides, the wedding is on the beach in 87 degree weather, and who wants to get dressed up for that? jeff mentioned that he sure as hell isn't going to be wearing a suit, and mom told of her plans to wear pants. finally, my sister gave in, and agreed that she liked the dress pants. and then, after all that, i realize i was planning on wearing a skirt to the wedding. and have to go shopping, again. life sucks.
