to tokyo
today was my grandmother's caretaker's birthday. we had been telling her since we found out (about a month ago) that we'd be coming over for a big dinner birthday party. she was really looking forward to it, it being her 50th birthday and that not leaving a lot to look forward to anymore.
so, naturally, my grandpa, being my grandpa, told her first thing this morning that my mother had broken her leg and was in the hospital. he said everyone was really worried about her and would be in the hospital visiting all day. she was really bummed out, and worried about my mom. so, i'll bet you can imagine her surprise when, at 5:45, my mom walks in the door with a birthday cake in hand, chipper and wishing her a happy birthday.
moral of the story #1: no matter what the circumstances, it's always possible to make something nice a surprise.
moral of the story #2: never ever listen to my grandpa.
